5/15/2024 0 Comments week 12OK, I haven’t posted since week 9 because of a combination of being overwhelmed and also just forgetting to do it. I’m back now, I finished the montage and it is currently on YouTube right now, I won’t post it on the website yet because I do not want anyone to have a sneak peak of it yet. I am proud of it though, the freeze frames are probably the best part of it, I credited the movie names in Italian instead of English at the end. CapCut is fun to use on a computer but it is often laggy because my computer is old and CapCut is a larger software. I hope mr. Barker doesn’t mind violence in videos (I tried not to include blood). Honestly at this point I think he’ll like it because I’ve heard that he likes action films and hopefully that is true. Now for another confusing and hard part, the slides and presentation. I’ve only gotten 2 slides done so far with not much info, so I’m trying my best to not crowd it with many words. For the first slide I found the original poster for Rome: Armed To The Teeth (The Tough Ones) with Maurizio Merli and Tomas Milian, it is a pretty cool poster. For the second slide I chose the album cover for Mafia Junction (1973). The original title is Si Puo’ Essere Piu’ Bastardi Dell’ispettore Cliff? I’ll translate it into English “Can You Be More of A Bastard Than Inspector Cliff?” A lot of the Eurocrime films have been named differently in English, for example; Squadra Volante is not really Emergency Squad, if you translate it, it is Flying Squad but us Americans just gave it a totally different name. Currently there are a few lost Eurocrime films that I’m looking for and I can only find them on DVD, not YouTube, Amazon, Netflix, Tubi or anything. Whenever I find some of the DVDs they are expensive and especially the shipping because they are from Italy.
OK, this last part has nothing to do with the documentary and just Eurocrime soundtracks, since I listen to them because they are groovy, I’ve attached a playlist I made including some highlight soundtracks if you decide to listen to them then enjoy! https://open.spotify.com/playlist/57EVwA5xZBhglJgRq6OGNx?si=9IBIYjMISluQDDjJIvzubA&pi=aXz6khIHRUarc

4/26/2024 2 Comments Week 9Unfortunately I have to switch from a documentary to a sort of montage/tribute. I recorded my voice but it sounds very muffled, I thought about adding captions but that wouldn't seem to fit it. In a documentary you have to have what I call "Gap Footage," Gap Footage is basically what is shown in transitions and sometimes whenever you are talking.
My main goal is to get better at editing and I can still do it. Instead of making a doc I will say what Eurocrime is on my google slide and just show people the montage of films because it's better to see the films than to hear me talk about it. With the background music I am still stuck between Il Grande Racket Pt 13 and Cani Arrabbiati (Titoli). This weekend I will be working very hard to accomplish this, last weekend I couldn't do much. I went to two film festivals and talked to the directors and asked for advise (since I want to be one). Well, that's it for this week. 4/17/2024 0 Comments Week 8This is going WAY TO FAST, I haven't recorded my voice yet but I will tonight. I have to stay up tonight for seizure testing tomorrow morning. I plan on getting a lot of work and editing done tonight because I have procrastinated WAY TOO LONG! I've still been collecting footage from films, I decided to make a short montage of the best Eurocrime films than talk about every single one because who wants to hear my voice? (Definitely not me). I will still be speaking a good deal but I really don't want to over talk. I am only mentioning the essential films in the montage such as:
Milano Calibro 9 (Caliber 9) Il Grande Racket (The Big Racket) Milano Odia: La Polizia Non Puo Sparare (Almost Human) Squadra Volante (Emergency Squad) Mark Il Poliziotto (Blood Sweat and Fear) Roma Violenta (Violent Rome) Vai Gorilla (Go Gorilla, Go!) Squadra Antiscippo (The Cop in Blue Jeans) Uomini Si Nasce Poliziotti Si Muore (Live Like a Cop, Die Like a Man) La Banda Del Gobbo (Brothers Till We Die) La Polizia Interviene: Ordine Di Uccidere (The Left Hand of The Law) So yeah, I have to find the coolest and most interesting clips from each film, I've not decided what music to put over it. I'm thinking of putting Il Grande Racket (Pt 1) over the montage or Cani Arrabbiati (Titoli). I've already organized the songs for the rest of the film. I'm using Milano Calibro 9 by Osanna for the clip of Caliber 9. I guess that's all I have for this week. 4/10/2024 0 Comments Week 7I should have known that I obviously wouldn't have been able to watch any movies over spring break. Everything is going downhill, the script I wrote isn't good and it is hard to speak in front of the camera, I mess up speaking every time. And every time I see my face on the camera I think, 'what is this ugly thing looking at me.' I tried to do some test shots of me speaking over break and I've decided that it's best to say all of it one time than to break it into different days. So with that being said sometime this week I need to record myself speaking, I am currently writing a new script and I'm trying to make it sound natural, after all I'm not trying to sound like a fancy news reporter because that would make the video awkward because everyone knows that I do not talk like that in real life. Even though I may not talk like a professional I am trying to make the background look professional, I have two vinyl records hanging on the wall behind me to show my interest in Eurocrime, they are soundtracks from the film Squadra Volante and Il Grande Racket. I am actually happy now because I found Almost Human on DailyMotion (I know it sounds cringy because it's not on YouTube), but I don't have to buy it on Amazon, I CAN SAVE MONEY!!! The most important thing I do when looking for movies is I look on YouTube first (or any other legal movie website). I actually discovered a YouTube channel that uploads full Eurocrime films, (Guns n' Drugs). Yeah, the channel name sounds weird, but I'm thankful for them though.
I guess that's it for this week! (I can’t believe that we are halfway to the end of Genius Hour! I have so much to do, I guess I have enough time to finish. I finished Caliber 9, it was a great movie, now I see why everyone says it is the best Eurocrime film. WIth Spring Break coming up I am going to try and make progress on the doc. I have done some test shots and audio. Now that I am done with Caliber 9, I am going to take Spring Break to watch some essential Eurocrime films. I have a list of movies that I am going to try and watch. Almost Human (1974) The Tough Ones (1976) The Cynic, The Rat and The Fist (1977) Live Like a Cop, Die Like a Man (1976) I feel like those are the most essential because they are the most popular. The good thing is that I have found a lot of these movies on YouTube for free. I initially looked at the ones on Tubi but they are lower quality. I am trying to find high quality versions so I can put scenes from them in the documentary. I hope that I have enough time to watch these, since I am going to the beach it may not be easy. I am trying to watch more Maurizio Merli and Tomas Milian films since they are the most notable actors in Eurocrime. The reason I am adding links to the films I watch is because maybe some of you guys would be interested in watching them (it depends on if you like action or not). I actually decided to watch the original Italian version of Caliber 9 because there is something odd about the English dubbed versions, it’s like they go down in quality and plus the dialogue is not the best because dubbers improvise most of the time. Anyways, that’s it for this week, everything is going decent so far. (The video for Caliber 9 is age restricted, so it's not available for school accounts). As I write this I am almost done with the first draft of the script for the documentary. I am doing a lot of research on Directors such as Umberto Lenzi and actors like Tomas Milian because I have to make sure all of the things I state are correct. The editing is coming along well in Capcut, I have an intro with short clips from Eurocrime films. Next week I hope to be able to start shooting the footage/audio of me talking. This will be somewhat hard for me because I usually hate to hear my voice in videos and I also hate to see my face! I'm pretty sure a lot of people can relate to that. This week I have also been watching more Eurocrime films, I watched La Banda Del Gobbo (Brothers Till We Die) and now I am starting Milano Calibro 9 (Caliber 9). I am trying to find more footage from the films but it is often hard to find a higher quality version. Most of the films were restored from VHS I think. I have to go through the process of finding the film, selecting a scene, screen recording it, and then cutting it. My CapCut skills are getting better but there are still lots of things I have to learn. I have the area in my room where I will record the footage and audio of me, I just have to test out the lighting. Perhaps the thing I find most easy about this so far is the music selection, obviously I'm gonna put soundtracks from the films in the documentary, it is easy to choose them because I actually listen to soundtrack music. I write a list of songs I am going to use, so far the first song is the theme from Cani Arrabbiati (Rabid Dogs) by Stelvio Cipriani). Here is one I have been studying this week, Mark Il Poliziotto (Blood, Sweat, and Fear) 1975. 3/15/2024 0 Comments Week 4I have decided to make a short documentary on Eurocrime films since my last project idea for Genius Hour did not work out. Today, I started the script and I have started this website. This will be a fun project to work on because I love Eurocrime films and I love editing videos, so this will give me a chance to improve on editing.
